In a Brickell or Sunny Isles condo the laundry is a closet off the hallway, the pair is stacked, the door swings into two feet of corridor, and everything about the visit follows from that. The machine itself is well built and unusually serviceable; getting a hand behind it is the job. ### The codes worth knowing - **Drain.** A blocked pump or a kinked outlet hose, and by far the most common thing we find. The pump is user-accessible on these machines, which is worth knowing before anyone drives out. - **Supply.** A closed valve, a blocked inlet filter or genuinely low pressure — a real possibility in an older building. - **Foam.** Too much detergent, or detergent meant for a full-size machine. A compact high-efficiency drum needs a fraction of what the bottle suggests. - **Balance.** The machine detects the imbalance, slows the spin and extends the cycle to try again. That is protection working, and it usually points at the load. ### Water where it should not be A washer in a closet on the fourteenth floor leaks onto somebody else’s ceiling, which changes how urgent a small drip is. If the machine has shut itself down over water in the base, leave it shut down and turn the tap off — that lockout is the machine deciding it is cheaper to stop than to continue. Photograph the whole thing, not just the first half. A compact drum is much less forgiving of an uneven load than a full-size one, so start with what is in it — one heavy item on its own is the classic. If it happens with everything, the shipping bolts, the feet and the suspension are the next questions. Usually yes, and in a stacked closet that is the hard part of the appointment rather than the repair.
